Writer's Inkwell - A Brief Introduction

Writer's Inkwell has been around for over a decade. I started with a local web hosting service and eventually moved to my own domain, carlhose.com. In the beginning, the web site was just a way for me to get a little personal PR. It didn't take long to realize I wanted more out of it, so in addition to making my work available, I published work by other writers, I compiled links to the best writing-related resources I could find, and I began reviewing books, movies, and writing-related software. I did it all with a sophisticated blend of humor, honesty, and even a little attitude. To my surprise, people paid attention to me. Hell, some even liked me. My writing sales doubled, software companies asked me to review their products, and I was having fun in the process.

Sometime in 2005 I went commercial with Writer's Inkwell. I started selling writing-related software. Bad move. I'm a writer with a big mouth, nothing more and nothing less. It's impossible for me to keep my opinions to myself, and opinions are not welcome when you're commercial. Being commercial generally means practicing restraint. I'm not good at being restrained.

I shut Writer's Inkwell down and concentrated on writing again. It wasn't long before I was back in business, only this time I was taking care of my business. I've never been shy when it comes to shameless self-promotion. I've been called a grandiose asshole a few times. The negative connotation of that endearing label has always eluded me. In fact, I sort of enjoy the reference.

I brought Writer's Inkwell back primarily to promote my work, but I'm humble too. I realize I owe my success to those who read my work, those who publish my work, and the people closest to me. I believe in giving credit where credit is due. I understand that no one is interested in visiting a web site simply to indulge the site's owner in his personal endeavors, so Writer's Inkwell also serves as a resource center for writers in all genres. I'll provide interviews, reviews, writing instruction, and anything else I believe will benefit my peers, and I'll also include a few goodies for the lovely people who take the time to read my work.

E-mail me if you have suggestions or comments. If you like Writer's Inkwell, please bookmark it and visit often. If you believe Writer's Inkwell is worth recommending, I'd appreciate a link from your web site. If you have a web site you think I should include at Writer's Inkwell, let me know about it.

Thanks for the support.
