Dead Birds

I've long been a fan of horror set in the od west. It's hard to do well, but the movie Dead Birds comes as close to perfect as you can get.

In this movie, a group of renegade confederate soldiers make their way to an abandoned plantation to lie low after robbing a bank. The plantation is haunted by all sorts of supernatural demonic forces.

The owner of the plantation, who sacrificed his slaves and even his children in a ritual to bring back his dead wife, has left behind a legacy of demonic forces that prey on anyone who enters the plantation house. I don't want to spoil the story here by giving you all the details, but trust me when I tell you this is a good one, even if you aren't into the whole western horror genre. My wife screams every time we watch it.

The movie is well paced with a good storyline. It starts out violent, runs through a short period that lets you catch your breath, and then takes you on a roller coaster ride to Hell. There are several worthy pop-out scenes, the demons are awesome, and the tension is masterfully layered throughout.

You'll watch Dead Birds more than once. The DVD comes with director and writer commentary, deleted scenes, and a making-of featurette. A movie that won't let you down.
