Survivor

I just finished reading Survivor. I am almost speechless. What you have here is a complete disregard for boundaries. No problem. That's what makes J.F. Gonzalez an awesome writer, and if you can stomach it, what makes this book a must-read.

Survivor tackles the underground pornography trade, and in particular, the snuff film trade. A pregnant woman, while on vacation with her husband, is kidnapped and taken to a cabin in order to be raped, tortured, and then killed in a snuff film. The subject matter alone is risky, and by the time Gonzalez pulls out the stops on you, you'll wonder how you survived the reading. This man took me to places I've never gone.

This novel will have you questioning the Gonzalez's state of mind for having written it and will have you questioning your own state of mind for reading it. Survivor will enrage you and sicken you. It will make you cry. The story is taut, the characters are real, and the subject matter is terrifying. Gonzalez steps into ugly territory and shatters taboos like imprted crystal.

Do I recommend you read Survivor? You bet. From it's unassuming start to it's bone-chilling climax and subsequent poignant denouement, Survivor will keep you turning pages and leave you emotionally drained.

The book is a Leisure Horror publication available from Dorchester Publishing. Visit J.F. Gonzalez at his official web site, jfgonzalez.com.
